Hamilton Beach 31103A Oven with Convection and Rotisserie Review

This is a highly versatile convection oven that you can use to bake virtually anything. It has enough room on the inside that you can bake chicken, turkey, pork, beef, etc. This oven comes with a revolving rotisserie setup, so that you can bake and self baste a turkey or chicken that weighs up to five pounds.

Large Capacity

What is really stunning about this particular convection oven is that it is small enough to keep on your counter, but big enough that you can bake 2 large pizzas at the same time. The fact that this oven is large enough that it can cook a five pound rotisserie, or you can use the two baking racks to bake or cook whatever you want, is really impressive.

Different Settings

We really like that this oven has plenty of different settings to cover all of your baking and cooking needs. This oven has four extremely useful settings that include bake, broil, convection, and rotisserie.

The bake settingis perfect for cakes, brownies, cookies, muffins, and any other baked goods that you may want to make in your oven. The broil setting is ideal for cooking fish. You can use the rotisserie setting for cooking chicken, turkey, pork, or beef so that your choice of protein can continually baste itself while it is baking. You can use the convection setting to cook or bake just about anything so that it cooks up evenly, and quickly.

This oven also conveniently hasa two hour cooking timer that will audibly let you know when the baking time has ended. It will also automatically shut off the oven after the 2 hour timer is up.

Revolving Rotisserie

The revolving rotisserie is definitely one of the highlights of this oven. Using a rotisserie allows you to self-baste a variety of meats in your oven including pork, chicken, beef, and turkey. It’s perfect for roasts too.

Easy to Clean

One of the nicest features of this compact oven is that it is super ease to use, and also really easy to clean. This oven has a full crumb drip tray for the bottom so that it can catch anything that may fall from above. It is really easy to slide in and out to clean before your next use. For the best baking experience, you should make sure that you are cleaning your oven regularly. Always make sure that you have unplugged your oven and that it has completely cooled down before you start cleaning the interior or exterior.

For cleaning the inside of the oven, you can use a wet soapy washcloth to wipe down the bottom, sides, and the glass door. Just make sure that you aren’t using anything to firm that would scratch or damage the heating element. You should wash all of the interior components in warm soapy water. You can wash the exterior of your oven with a soft, wet washcloth with soap. Make sure that you don’t use any harsh cleaning pads for the exterior of the oven, so that you avoid scratching the exterior.

  1. John says:

I have found 4 major flaws with this product:
    1. The rotisserie gear train has too much slop in it so just when the chicken breast is approaching the top element to get brown it flops over more than a quarter of a turn.
    2. The door handle is poorly designed. When it is open it lays flat on the counter and you cannot get your fingers under it to raise it. The mounting brackets could have been designed with extensions that would rest on the counter and allow finger room underneath.
    3. It has no insulation in it like any decent oven has. The outside gets extremely hot(will burn you if you touch it) This is a great energy waste and heats up the kitchen.
    4. This may not bother you but it is a problem for me. To add time the knob is turned clockwise and counter-clockwise to reduce time or turn it off. I am used to turning things off by twisting the know counter clockwise but I often turn it too far and that puts it in the stay on position. Others have said that the timer will continue to the stay on position by itself.

Worst of all one of the small plastic door brackets on my unit broke. I contacted customer service who told me I could not have a replacement part but they would give me 50% off on a new unit. So $50.00 for a 50 cent part.

Here is their reply which took weeks to get:
